Friends, if ever there was an author that has so captured my EXACT THOUGHTS and placed them on paper for all to read, it would be Jen Hatmaker.
Her books Interrupted and Seven: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess have left me profoundly examining my very foundation and my entire WAY OF LIVING. Her books have utterly challenged me to my core, and I. AM. MOVED.
And NOW? Over the past few months, I have been privileged to be a part of Jen’s LAUNCH TEAM for her new book, For the Love, and I could write 10,000 blog posts about #ALLTHEFEELINGS I have about this book. I have literally LAUGHED until my belly ached, cried big soppy wet tears, and shook my fists, indignant to make CHANGE and love others well. This book will move you.
So TODAY, is LAUNCH DAY! Jen’s book has arrived for all the world to read and YOU CAN BUY A COPY HERE!
But I am also celebrating this day with Jen, by posting a few of my favorite quotes from the book, and a few of my thoughts and… I will be sharing my heart and the things God spoke to me while reading this book (we all got advance copies!) in the days to come too at a much deeper level.
So here you are…MY FAVS:
1. “Simply speaking truth out loud is healing in and of itself. When people voice a true hard thing, they’ve already stolen some of its dark power before we offer one word to fix it.”
Truth. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a seeker of truth. Integrity and honesty are at the top level for me in friendships and relationships and I can sniff out deception like my daughter’s dirty diapers…. you cannot hide.
We cannot truly have freedom until we speak the truth. Is it hard? Yes. Do I have a lot to learn in overcoming the fear of rejection in order to speak true hard things? Absolutely. But OH THE FREEDOM and HEALING found in truth telling! And here is what I think is so profound.
It is NOT ENOUGH to know the truth in your heart. For its magical powers to work, it MUST BE SPOKEN. True intimacy in relationships begins and ends with the powerful words we choose. I am hoping to be very HONEST and speak some truths to you over this next month, about our journey.
2. “When people fail you, and they will, Jesus is ever faithful. When circumstances tank, and they will, Jesus will hold you fast. He is the most trustworthy, Dependable Savior, and you will never be alone.”
You guys, seriously. #adoption #churchfailure #DRCStuck #storyofmylife I have never had to hold on to Jesus more tightly in my life in this CRAZY storm that we have trudged through in the past few years. There is JUST. NO. OTHER. WAY. to survive the storm. Only ONE thing is constant.
3. “It means restoring people in ordinary conversations and regular encounters. A worthy life means showing up, when showing up is the only thing to do.”
I quote this with a heavy sigh. I have walked here, in the heartbreakingly desperate moments… where time stood still and your heart stops and you are hardly able to breathe a single breath… where any single word spoken would just be caught away in the wind…. in utter shock. The only prayer that can be uttered is one word, Jesus. And the only thing to do, is show up. Friends, my heart is raw to share with you, what I have experienced here.
True friendship. Real Christianity. #letthetruthbeknown
4. “If we want to raise disciples, we better take them to where Jesus is working because they’ll discover His appeal more quickly in the field, than in sanitized classrooms or on behavior charts.”
Again. Truth, the Hands and Feet of the Gospel, Integrity, and Love is what WINS. Jen speaks powerfully in this book on raising your family to REALLY KNOW HIM. All I know, is that rules and pew sitting DO NOT WORK. The heart of God is people. People matter MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. More than your pride, more than your financial picture, more than your comfort. We need to BE CHRIST more than we need to sit and listen about Him, and THIS is how I intend to raise my children. We will be people of action. People of Love. This is why I am involved with Reach Ministries International. Intentionally raising youth, to BE LOVE. More on this later.
SO ARE YOU EXCITED TO READ THIS BOOK YET?!?!?
